[missing-sync-winmobile-talk] 1st sync erased my device!!

That is correct.
I was concerned that when the events got written back on the 2nd sync
that recurrence patterns would be broken, but they seem to be OK.
My desire was to have one iCal calendar that contained all handheld
events, but the manual (& my experience) shows categories on the device
get put into separate iCal calendars.

Just to make sure I understand:
- You created a new iCal calendar that had not events.
- In The Missing Sync you chose to sync with ONLY that calendar? You did
NOT choose to sync ALL calendars.
If that is the case, this sounds like a known problem where on the first
sync only if you chose to sync just some of your calendars the 1st sync
can delete all events from the device, but the 2nd sync puts everything
back and then you are okay after that. We are working on a fix for this
problem.
