[missing-sync-winmobile-talk] 3.0 Duplicate contacts on first sync

On the first execution of Missing Sync after upgrading to 3.0 I got
"cannot connect to device" errors for each plugin.
Typically this:

11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: setStatusString
string=busy
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: Locked
com.markspace.syncservices
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: Locked Calendar
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: SyncClient
error. Can't connect to device.
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events:
completePIMUpload called.
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: Unlocked Calendar
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: Unlocked
com.markspace.syncservices
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: setBusy 0
11/10/06 14:24:51 MSUI: Mark/Space Calendar Events: setStatusString
string=Error on last sync. See log.

I shut down Missing Sync, removed the device and started over. This
time sync appeared to be working.
On the first sync under 3.0, I checked the overwrite box and clicked
Allow. I now have two of every contact on my Dell X30 WM2003 (2nd
Edition).
I was never prompted for the overwrite on the calendar or tasks
(thank goodness).

Once again, MarkSpace has wasted my time and my money. It will take
forever to eliminate the duplicates and I fear another sync will make
triplicates.
