No, I don't think you have to disable The Missing Sync to use the  
phone for SMS/dial. You don't want to be connected, but you don't  
have to disable anything. Again, some phones seem to support Address  
Book and some don't. You'll know when you pair if "Use with Address  
Book" is in the list of services in the Mac Bluetooth Setup Assistant.
