I gave up with AvantGo and started using iSilo and iSiloX. This
allowed me to choose how, when and what I get for downloading on to
my machine. I find the interface for the viewer very good when you
get it configured. I've now got iSiloX running on my webs server
every morning collecting all my news and put it on a web page for me
to download when I'm out and about. If I'm connected to my Mac then
it downloads automatically via FTP to my Storage Card. I also do a
backup up of 'My Documents' folder via PsyncX - also, as I mentioned
in the beta post, - ChronoSync maybe worth a look for actual synching.
Hope this helps
