Actually, it seems to depend on the device and the Windows OS used, which is
also true of earlier devices and earlier versions of Activesync as well.

#1 gotcha - ActiveSync will appear to hang during the installation at 92%.
It has not hung, leave it be. It will sit there for a good 30 to 60 minutes
and then complete the installation. This pause happens on real hardware as
well, but rarely lasts more than minute or two. If you cancel the
installation at this point to start over, the registry is dorked... You'll
never get it to install properly after that. Start over with a clean install
of Windows, or if you use undo drives, revert.

With my Samsung i730, I found that I could not get the device to work via
VPC under Windows XP Pro. But it works just fine under Windows 2000.

Nope it doesn't work. Not for me anyway but I think someone else on 
here might have tried and failed too, I'm sure someone will have more 
details.
