All my recurring third, fourth, last Monday or Thursday appointments are now
on Sunday. Also something funny happens with appointments during the second
full week of December. Before 2.02b they were all moved forward 1 hour.
Now only some are moved forward and hour. These are all finals periods
which happen to begin at 10:15 and 15:00 US EDT and extend for 2 1/2 hours
each. I have a backup tool on my iPAQ that appears to create XML files.
Perhaps MarkSpace would like to see those? On Entourage, the events can be
saved to the desktop in iCal format. They are already time shifted when I
do that, so I do not see that that will be helpful data. I do not enter
calendar events accept on the device, so I always overwrite Entourage. If I
do not zero the Entourage calendar first, I still get a few duplicates
(mostly those out of time/date entries, but a few random others).
By the way, if anyone has time to experiment, how many times do you have to
clear every event in your calendar (followed by the DB utility compressing
and fixing) before you can open Entourage to a blank calendar? For me it is
never fewer than five times. That is not a MissingSync problem but points
to a persistent problem with Microsoft Software that I have seen for 10
years in various programs (Word, eXcel, Access, and ActiveSync).
Finally, I am also seeing problems with syncing itself that are part of the
Windows Mobile system. I am sure they are not MissingSync related because
they first showed up when I installed an exe-only program through ActiveSync
3.8. This is also an error I have seen before with active sync over a COM
port. So I suspect some of the errors folks have found with syncing just
not running at all are from the device, not MSync software.
I do see a recurring problem with natd not being able to bind an address,
and I suspect this is partly because the MS daemon is not a launchd client.
I have seen the same kind of bind failures with older unix software that was
starting the "BSD way" under Tiger and I fixed those by wrapping the
programs in launchd-compliant bash scripts--just a thought for the engineers
in the audience.
