FWIW I have Finnish and US Holidays in iCal and Entourage, as well as  
a few birthdays, and Pocketmac is handling it fine (I just checked to  
verify that). Always has at least from when I started using it.  
Obviously there's people here that have had bad experiences with one  
or the other program, or both, but with TMS I was experiencing  
bluetooth dropped connections, resulting in a corrupted isync db, and  
then the recurring event bug (not just on all day events, but my  
class schedule became completely unreliable), and dodgy task syncing.  
But new version after new version failed to address the problem. I  
had tried to avoid Pocketmac because of the bad word-of-mouth about  
it, but when I finally gave up and switched I was surprised to see  
that everything worked as it should.

I agree about renaming your ppc. Decide on the name of your ppc  
_before_ the first sync. I thought that went without saying. ;)
