[missing-sync-pocketpc-talk] Installation of Files with Missing
Sync (New version)

Hi everyone,
Here's my biggest gripe so far with owning a PocketPC.. Installing
programs! For whatever reason, active sync won't install on Virtual
PC (It always hangs on something called 'microsoft' at 92%
completion). So I can't get at the .exe files to find what I need to
install.
I was successfully able to get Mapopolis on for my GPS needs (Thank
god I could do that) - All I had to do was install the voices
manually which was easy enough.
Essentially, only vendors who could get me a .cab worked. When I try
the .exe thing, it's a no go since most of the time, it needs
activesync installed. Places like handango usually have .exe files.
Sigh...
I don't know what to do! Currently, I'm trying to check out SPB
Pocket Plus 2.5 and I've already contacted them for a .cab file but
no reply yet (sent yesterday afternoon). I want to try out some
games on the PPC just to see how the quality is compared to my Treo
650 and well, all .exe installers... Why do they make them
installable only from windows? There should just be a pocketpc type
of installer so you just sync that file over (like the .cab), tap on
it on PPC and boom, it installs. How does everyone here get their
programs installed? Oh yeah, I want to upgrade my ROM too... I guess
I can't... Is using a friends computer okay (I'd want to do so
without putting my personal info on his/her computer through
synching) - perhaps in a guest mode just for installing? In that
case, I can just bring my USB microdrive with the .exe files on them.
Any ideas?
Mike
