I have learned that part of the problem is allowing ActiveSnyc to rename your PocketPC when establishing sharing ... iCal has to 'see' the same device name everytime. I also found out that it does nor take annually recurring events too well, so I don't use them anymore ... So far no problems with iCal, iSync, and my iMac account all staying synched...
