[missing-sync-winmobile-talk] duplicate calendar entries

Hi
I had turned off the ical sync for a while and then did another sync  
and all the entries on my device appear to be duplicated.  its as if  
missing-sync ignored everything on my device and put new entries for  
everything.
how does one fix this?

and why does it do this in the first place?!
