iPAQ 4700 - Tiger 10.4.2

Syncing iCal and Address Book seem fine to me.  I did have problems  
to begin with but used Pocket Informant's search feature to weed out  
duplicate calendar entries after which syncing is sweet.  However I  
do have problems with both installing a .cab file or copying a file.   
In either case, the system locks up:-

1    If copying (obviously after mounting), the dialog displays but  
the copy does not start and the system locks up.
2    If installing a .cab file, the dialog displays and then the  
system locks up shortly prior to completion.  (Approx. amount copied  
= 1.4Mb when file size is approx. 1.8Kb)

Any ideas please?
