There are two ways for Mac users to install onto an iPaq. The first, and
more expensive, method is to use Victual PC, which enables the Mac to run a
simulated version of Windows from which iPaq files can be installed. The
second is to install PocketMac Pro 3, which can extract the necessary parts
from many .exe files so that they can be installed without the need for a PC
- this works for a lot of iPaq software but I'm not sure if it works for a
rom upgrade. Virtual PC certainly works with rom upgrades. One other utility
to consider is PocketMac Backup, which can back up an entire iPaq or just
selected files to a Mac or even store them on the Mac as a disk image file
(.dmg). I use this successfully and with no problems whatsoever and have
done a full restore after a hard reset.
I should add that I am just a regular Mac and iPaq user and have no
connection with the PocketMac people, who can be found at www.pocketmac.net.
