the other great product available is Pocket Informant. 
(http://www.pocketinformant.com) and they have some Mac s/w too!

I can recommend their PIM enhancements. I use it on my PPC 
(mine is an older version too). It has some great features that
I feel really add to Pocket Outlook. You will have available
a monthly view as close to what you are wanting as possible.
Appointments are shown as bars.

There are a whole load of other enhancements and views.
