One of the limitations of Pocket PCs is that if their battery goes dead 
everything on the device is lost.  There are a number of Pocket PC 
backup application which let you do regular backups to a SD or other 
format of media card.

If you are having problems getting Missing Sync to recognize the 
device, I'd suggest doing a soft reset and contacting 
support at markspace.com if you still have problems.
