[missing-sync-pocketpc-talk] Categories Sync Suggestion

Hi all,

I have just been reading the list archive entries regarding the
category syncing problems. I have a suggestion how to solve this
problem. I have not looked up Apple's documentation on iSync conduits,
if there should be any.

Currently you are presenting a popup menu for the Address Book groups
to sync and a list box for the iCal calendars.

Suggestion:
Present a unified list box containing the Address Book group names
(abbrev.: ABG) and the iCal calendar names (abbrev: Cal). For each
name, present two checkboxes: one for "Sync with Addresses" and one for
"Sync with Calendar". This would solve the problem of which category
would belongs to which application. These are the possible cases:
- I have a ABG and a Cal with the same name: Sync with the respective
data with the category, if it's checked. If not, ignore it. Default
would be both checkboxes on.
- I have a ABG but no Cal for one name: Only sync addresses, if ABG
checkbox is on. If I check the Cal checkbox, issue an warning and ask,
whether the calendar should be created. If creation of calendars is not
possible, just disable the Cal checkbox for this name.
- I have a Cal but no ABG for one name: Same, vice versa.

For PPC calendar entries having multiple categories, allow these
alternative options:
- Add to all calendars (Assuming users would enter multiple categories
on purpose)
- Add to first calendar in list order (This would allow to order
calendars in iCal to create a preference)
- Add to one calendar given by a popup menu (similar to the current
solution for PPC generated events)

Please tell me, if this is not possible due to interface restrictions.
For all other cases, I would be happy to discuss things further, should
there be a need for this. I would also be happy to test early versions
to help you on this issue.

Best regards,

Wolfgang
