We have posted Missing Sync for Pocket PC 1.0.4b1 on our website. This
addresses a number of issues that have been reported. Please remember
that this is a beta version and it still may contain issues; we
recommend that you backup your data before using this version. All
issues with this version and any other version should be reported to
support@markspace.com; while this list is monitored by Mark/Space
engineers, the only way for an issue to get fix in a future version is
to contact Support.
If an issue is not directly addressed in the release notes (listed
below), it has not been addressed. Any issues that you are having
problems with should be reported to our support staff so that they can
be examined and addressed in the future.
You can download the new version from:

I'm having difficulty getting my contacts from Address Book on the Mac

I've disabled contacts and calendar sync on my Dell Inspiron 300m (XP

Outlook. Anyone have any idea how to make this work?

Hi,
I just got an O2 Xphone and currently it does not work with MissingSync for
Pocket PC 1.0.3 (v19). Is there any plan to support this phone?
Another question. If I have 2 Pocket PC devices registered under my name,
will MissingSync allow me to sync both the devices? Right now if I connect a
2nd Pocket PC device, MissingSync will prompt me for a registration code. I
guess this is because the name assigned to the device differs.
Thanks.

In the Mark/Space Knowledgebase,
, you say that 'if you are syncronizing your handheld contacts, to do's,
and calendar items with Outlook on the PC, we do not currently support
syncing ALL event types that were created by Outlook on the PC.' Could
you be a bit more specific; ie what kind of events are not synchronized
properly? Do you plan to fix this in a future version?

Yes. It is being addressed in the update that will come *after* 1.0.4 (and
we've already starting on that version). Version 1.0.4 is currently in late
beta.

The O2 Xphone is a Smartphone, and Smartphones are not officially
support by MissingSync for Pocket PC.
The issue is that some Smartphone mobile operators use different
security models which don't allow us to synchronize contacts,
appointments and tasks. Mounting of the device, installing
applications, iTunes, iPhoto, and internet sharing should work with all
security models.
The 1.0.4b1 version which is posted to
will recognize significantly more
devices than any previous version.
We've had reports of users having success with the MPx200 using AT&T
and T-Mobile Germany. However, we've also heard of problems with the
MPx200 on AT&T. We'll keep looking and if there are any devices and
mobile operators we can officially support, we'll let the list know.
If you already own a copy of Missing Sync for Pocket PC, feel free to
give 1.0.4b1 a try with any Smartphones, but please realize they are
not officially supported. Although if they work, I'd like to hear
about it.

Starting with the 1.0.4 version, we are changing our licensing model to
support multiple devices, on upto 2 Macs with a single license of
Missing Sync for Pocket PC. If you still have your "Temporary
Registration Code" which was sent to you in your original order email,
you can use that code to register a second device with the 1.0.4b1
version.
You can still only have one device connected at a time though just like
on a PC,

Good.
There are a few more features I would like to see added to MS:
1) An option to synchronize the pocket PC clock with the mac clock.
2) The ability to automaticly convert file formats when copying files to
and from the handheld.
3) File synchronization (not just backup).
4) The ability to see exactly what contacts and events that are changed
and to choose what to do with each one of them if you have ticked 'Show
Data Change Alert when any of the data on this computer will be changed'
in iSync's preference pane.
5) The ability to see exactly what contacts and events that are changed
and to choose what to do with each one of them when there is a conflict.
Now you just have to make a wild guess and hope you keep the most recent
one.
> Version 1.0.4 is currently in late beta.
I have installed it and had no problems so far.

Hi Dave,
Here's an update.
I just installed 1.0.4b1 and my O2 Xphone is recognized as a SmartPhone with
device type Qtek8080NS.
Isync recognizes the device and shows a Pocket PC PDA icon. Isync then
proceeds to sync with Address Book and iCal. Progress bar says its writing N
contacts and Y calender entries to the device but when I checked the Xphone
contact and calender apps, I don't see the new entries. So it's currently
like a fake sync.
At least for now I can doubleclick on the Xphone icon and explore the phone.
Looks promising.

Thanks for the update.
Basically this means that O2 uses a security policy which prevents us
from accessing the contacts, appointments and tasks databases.
However, you should be able to copy files on the phone, install
software, and share the Mac's internet connection with the phone.

You could write an AppleScript to suck information
from AddressBook, and then import/export them from
FileMaker Pro.
Personally, I find AppleScript language daunting, so
for me, I would use Perl. Either use Mac::Glue to get
at AppleScript, or just do the down and dirty method:
Drag the contacts into a folder, which creates a
bunch of vCards (files with .vcf). Use Perl to
read through the files and create a .CSV that can
be imported into FileMaker Pro.
FileMaker likewise can be exported to a .CSV file,
which then can be used through a crafty script to
either insert the contacts into AddressBook, or create
vCards that can be dragged into AddressBook.
Once inside AddressBook, MissingSync for PPC can
synchronize the information.
The best solution would be for FileMaker (or a third
party) to develop a iSync plug-in, but Apple does not
plubically document the API.

I think this is excellent feedback (the feature
requests) for MissingSync folks.
I just wanted to comment on item 2. I think that
would be a good feature, as long as this can be
configured. I don't want to loose the desktop mounting
feature. I run perl scripts to catalog my PocketPC,
so that I can note changes, observe how applications
are installed (in their many places), and avoid
potential misconfigurations introduced bad programs or
OS bugs.
Under Windoze with ActiveStink, there's some browser
for the PocketPC file system, but this is only a
browser. It is not truly mounted as a real drive, and
thus I cannot access it. The same thing happens with
the other product (ahem, PocketMac one), where there
is a browser, but no real access.
MissingSync for PPC has the most useful access to the
PocketPCs files, as not only can their tools access it
and do their magic, but I can write tools to get at
the information.
One feature though, I think is very important, is the
ability to synchronize NOTES. I would like the little
notes on my iPod and maybe as something else on the
Mac. It would be nice to have Entourage v.X/2K4
support, and support for PocketWord/Excel conversion
to Word 2004 and Excel 2004.

Sounds like the synchronization is failing when trying to read or write
a particular record. Did you happen to notice if you got the error when
iSync was reading from or trying write information to the handheld?
If you have all your data on the Mac I suggest you try using the iSync
option to "Reset All Devices" in the Device menu.

The error occurs when reading data from the handheld. I don't really want
to "Reset All Devices", because I'm trying to get the data from the
handheld to the Mac. This would delete all my data.
How can I tell which record is causing the error.

Sounds like the synchronization is failing when trying to read or write
a particular record. Did you happen to notice if you got the error when
iSync was reading from or trying write information to the handheld?
If you have all your data on the Mac I suggest you try using the iSync
option to "Reset All Devices" in the Device menu.

iSync displays a counter at the bottom of the iSync window. If you can
note the last number we can try to then look at the actual data file.
If your handheld has a backup program you'll need to create a backup of
your PIM data (Calendar data only) and send that to
support@markspace.com along with repeating a description of the
problem. If you don't have a backup program try www.spriteware.com.

I think that would be spritesoftware.com. Unfortunately, the Sprite backup
software causes a memory exception when I tried to backup the handheld
data. ActiveSync has a backup facility, but it won't just backup the
calendar data. Not sure how to proceed.

Since the Sprite backup software is also unable to backup your data
that might suggest that your handheld data is corrupt. You may end up
having to do a hard reset.
If you can you sync with ActiveSync you might try to then export your
data as vCal files or even just tab delimited and import it into iCal.
Then hard reset your handheld and sync from your Mac using the Missing
Sync.

Events created in iCal with alarm do not trigger Notification on
PPC
Message-ID:
Hi there all. Here is a problem that has been annoying me (well, truth me
told, driving me nuts) since I purchased my O2 XDA2 device and Missing Sync
about one week ago. My computer is a G5 and I am running system 10.3.3. I
will outline the problem step by step. First, this is what WORKS.
1. Create a new appointment on the PPC.
2. Set it with the option to be reminded of the meeting say 5 minutes
before.
3. Do a sync.
4. The PPC will remind you 5 minutes before the meeting according to your
settings in the Alarms and Notifications panel. On the Mac side, iCal will
also do the same. So everything works as it should.
This is what DOESN?T WORK.
1. Create a new event in iCal. Set it so that you are reminded say minutes
with a message and sound.
2. Do a sync.
3. The appointment appears on the PPC. But guess what? The reminder does NOT
come on. Grrrr.
I have tried the following:
1. Setting the event in iCal in the XDA calendar (my name for the default
calendar in iSync for events created on the PPC)
2. Setting the event in the To Do calendar in iCal.
3. Setting the event in iCal without any alarm.
4. Repeating 1 to 3 above and then removing the device from the cradle.
5. Repeating 1 to 3 above and then removing the device from the cradle and
performing a soft reset.
6. I have even copied the default sounds from the PPC, copied them to the
Mac, converted them to AIFF (maintaining the exact same name as used on the
PPC), put them in my ~/Library/Sounds folder so that I can access them via
iCal and repeated all the steps above. Nada. Events created in iCal do not
trigger the reminder on the PPC.
7. I did a hard reset of the PPC so that no new software was loaded,
repeated everything above and still got the same problem. No matter what I
try, any event created in iCal and synced to the PPC, will not trigger the
notification alarm on the PPC.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in
advance.

I've absolutely had exactly the same problem, quite consistently. It
doesn't occur with "real" ActiveSync to a PC, and I'm pretty sure I
know why.
Real "ActiveSync" fires off a Notification event called
"ActiveSyncDone" (or something similar) on the Pocket PC when it's
done. Calendar applications use this event/notification to rescan the
calendar databases to check for new alarms.
It doesn't look like Missing Sync for Pocket PC generates this
notification when it's done synchronizing the calendars and ToDo items.
Doing so should solve the problem.

We have been able to duplicate this problem. We are looking into a fix.
While we won't be able to include a fix in the upcoming 1.0.4 build, we
will target the next build after 1.0.4.

According to the mailing lists, this bug has been around for a while. I
am getting this on the majority of the events on my calendar, which are
recurring whole-day events (birthdays). Is this bug being worked on? With
this bug, Missing Sync is close to useless for me.

Yes, this bug is being worked on. We are working on an update (post
1.0.4) that should resolve this and other recurring event type issues,
which have proven to be the most difficult.

This is covered in the manual (I happen to have the 1.0.2 manual handy, so
pasted from that, but it would also be in the current 1.0.3 and 1.0.4
manuals as well...
"To move a Pocket Word or Pocket PC file to the Mac from the handheld:
1. Within the Pocket Word or Pocket Excel program, save the document as a
Word97/2000 Document or an Excel97/2000 Workbook.
2. Mount the Pocket PC volume on the mac desktop
3.Find the saved file and open it. "

Please please please fix the speed problem - it takes several minutes
(up to 30 minutes!) to do a sync because it has to copy all the records
(addresses, calendar entries, etc) instead of updating just the ones
that have changed.

Boy, that would totally rock.
Love to see "photo" support, too, for those of us with Pocket PC Phone
Edition: getting the pictures over and associated with the caller ID
record (which currently has to be done manually) would be very nice
indeed.

Hi,
I just got an O2 Xphone and currently it does not work with MissingSync for
Pocket PC 1.0.3 (v19).

Filemaker Moblie 7 does not come out until this summer, but I have not
heard if it will offer syncing for the Pocket PC with OS X yet or not?
Thanks

How can I tell which record is causing the error.

iSync displays a counter at the bottom of the iSync window. If you can
note the last number we can try to then look at the actual data file.

Registration Code" which was sent to you in your original order email,
you can use that code to register a second device with the 1.0.4b1
version.
You can still only have one device connected at a time though just like
on a PC,

Thanks Dave. I have downloaded 1.0.4b1. Will give it a shot later.
