[missing-sync-pocketpc-talk] Communication with Markspace

I don't think anyone can say that the guys at Markspace aren't
excellent coders. They write great stuff, and I think we all know that
a non-buggy Activesync is even beyond the scope of Microsoft's
abilities. I knew Markspace wrote great stuff from my Clie days, and
it's why I chose them. However, not everything is perfect, and while
they're great coders, communicating is an uphill battle.

For instance, when you need help, in the days when I was using my Clie
at least, it would take 3 days for them to answer. Now this is probably
because they're understaffed and really busy. I understand that, but
with three days between each reply, many users who would be otherwise
reporting bugs just won't bother. So yes, the number reporting bugs is
low, but you have to consider who has given up trying to contact you.
That leaves the mailing lists. The lists are handy since you can see
perhaps if others are having the same problem. And there's the
knowledge that perhaps Markspace sees the conversation. But my heart
sinks when I see Markspace saying to email them again via their support
address. Why? This is beaurocratic red tape to me. Markspace saw the
mailing list message. Why make the customer waste more time emailing
you twice? That is another obstacle to communication, and it's
indicative of more problems to com, and it weeds out still more
customers who might otherwise contact you. We simply don't have the
time to email all of creation. One should suffice, either to support or
to the mailing list.

Another obstacle is how Markspace sees the world versus how we do. One
user brought up how TMS doesn't work as it should. Markspace seemed
surprise by this, and went off on the Entourage tangent. According to
your website, TMS should be able to sync via bluetooth, has internet
sharing, has the ability to install files and backup important data.
Hmm, well, with Bluetooth time-outs it's tough to surf the net for more
than 5 minutes at a time. Bluetooth also crashes when trying to install
files. I've never had the backup feature work correctly.. so basically
with the current bugs, it doesn't fully work as advertised. I can't see
how Markspace can be surprised by this.

Would a clean install of Panther solve this? Perhaps. I intend to try
this as soon as I can get Panther. Are the bugs on the 2210 (I did
upgrade the bluetooth)? Perhaps. But in my mind the purpose of the list
should be two-fold. Firstly, to see if other users are having similar
problems, and secondly, so Markspace can monitor said problems. The
more obstacles you build to communication, the more the customers will
rebel.

I'm not angry at Markspace, and I don't think they "suck" but hopefully
I can add this constructive criticism without the list descending into
flames.

Thanks,

Kim
