[missing-sync-pocketpc-talk] Panther problem

More testing, but still no success. Here's what I've done:
1. Used Carbon Copy Cloner to take a copy of my working 10.2.8 system
onto a new partition on another disk
2. Confirmed that the copy works with MS (Missing Sync)
3. Did a Panther Archive and Install on the 10.2.8 system
4. Booted into Panther on this new install
5. Reinstalled MS. But no success - connects and then disconnects
immediately.
So, tried to isolate the problem:
6. Copied the /Library folder from a working Panther/MS partition into
the broken Panther. No improvement
7. Copied the /System/Library/Extensions folder from a working
Panther/MS partition. Panther wouldn't launch properly, so replaced it
to original.
8. Copied the ~myaccount/Library folder from a working Panther/MS
partition. Again, no improvement.
So, I reckon that it's now either something in the /System folder or in
the low level unix OS files that is preventing MS to operate properly.
Any other suggestions?
