There seems to be a specific order to things to get AS to work with VPC. I
have had to start up VPC, start up ActiveSync, *then* cradle the iPAQ.

You might check your settings file to ensure that VPC is checking USB for
the iPAQ. I used to have a problem with VPC listing the iPAQ as a shared
device, but it would be unchecked. Take a look at this before cradling the
iPAQ.
