We will have an install tool, and since you'll have full access to the
device as a hard drive, you can always use the finder to copy a CAB file to
the device, or delete files on the device.

Depends what the books are. If they are just data files, you can manage
them from the finder. If it requires a PC application to
unpack/decompress/decrypt/whatever the files, then you would still need a
PC.
