Scott - I finally figured out what's wrong. It's your conduit. If I set 
your conduit to scale to 480 x 320 it comes into Splashphoto as 427 x 320. 
That's what the black area is.

However, if I copy my photos from iPhoto to Splashphoto it pops up a 
dialogue stating that it will scale to 480 x 320 in Landscape. When I just 
enable the Splashphoto conduit, it comes into Splashphoto exactly as 480 x 
320. There is no black area. It works perfectly and the slideshow works 
wonderfully.

If you look at these photos in the Palm Viewer, they don't fill the screen. 
The Palm viewer is looking for 640 x 480.

Finally, I can create my category in Splashphoto (e.g. Laurie Ottawa Sept 
2006) and the photos go into the Splashphoto on the Palm in the exact 
category that I want on my SD card. It works beautifully.

Missing Sync though does have a problem with its conduit. If you didn't 
have the Splash desktop and you sync photo albums using your conduit to the 
Palm and set it as 480 x 320 you don't get this. Rather you get, as I said 
above, 427 x 320. Somehow I think you should change this so that it scales 
to exactly what you set it as rather than the conduit changing it to 
something else. It just won't display in Splashphoto correctly but it will 
display in the Palm viewer without problem.

I think for other users, such as myself, this variation that your conduit 
is creating just causes confusion. Like I mentioned, the Palm's Send to 
Handheld is fully automatic and you get the perfect image on the Handheld 
and it displays exactly correctly in the Palm handheld viewer. If you check 
these files in Splash list view they will read as 640 x 480.

>From a users perspective though, all you want to see is a nice looking 
photo automatically applied to the handheld. As a user, I don't really care 
what the ratio is. I can't tell this in the Palm viewer but the Splash 
viewer does give me this information. This is how I've figured this out. 
For most users, I think they will find the Missing Sync conduit very 
puzzling.

I would recommend that all users using Missing Sync invest in the 
Splashphoto Desktop (the whole bundle) to get great results automatically. 
The Splashdesktop does allow for manual manipulation of a photo, such as 
cropping but I'm not really interested in doing this. I just want to show 
my friends my photos from my travels.

This process I've gone through has been very beneficail for me though as I 
now have much greater control over my photos on my Handheld. It is very 
easy to copy the photos from iPhoto to Splash, categorize them rapidly in 
Splash and then move them to the handheld. Using Palm's approach, although 
simple, requires that I manipulate all photos on the handheld into an 
album, which is very time consuming. The Splashphoto approach is way faster.

So once again, having figured this out, I'm a happy camper :).
