An easy test is to see if the "phone number" has an @ in it. It is  
more like that it is an email address than a phone number (I realized  
some people might put the @ in a phone number.)

While this seems like something easy to do, it is often overlooked. I  
had thought that Mark/Space Mail checked for the @ sign, but like the  
other applications, it unfortunately looks for the email label.
