Kerry,
I'd like to give you the background on this issue:
When we were first in beta of the 5.0 release, people complained if
they were using a Treo that they had "blank" entries in their phone
dialer app. This is because the list is generated by looking at field
labels rather than content, so the field would be "Home" but still
contain an email address (as it does in Address Book). It is a poor
way for that app to parse for phone numbers, but that's the way it goes.
A change was made so that if someone is using a Treo device (now
including the 700p), any email fields on the desktop (regardless of
their label) would be labeled "E-mail" on the device. However, this
isn't the way we really wanted to go with it, since we aren't
maintaining a 1:1 field label match during our sync - we're making an
exception for the unfortunate design of the app on the Treo, and for
those users the phone dialer is of the utmost importance.
In 5.1.1, there was a bit of a fix for this so that it would work
more consistently, and added support for the 700p.
As to Address Book entries with the label E-mail, the *type* of email
address is "other" and so it maps 1:1 to "Other" on non-Treo devices.
There isn't a great solution to this - there are compromises in both
ways of dealing with it.
Is there anything with the LifeDrive that "needs" (as the Treos do) a
label to be set as E-mail?
