We tried that and it didn't work well. It caused all the iCal events to
change from banner events to repeating single day events. Which would then
propagate everywhere else (bad!), not to mention look bad in iCal.

What Sync Services really needs is to allow developers to provide their own
equivalency function. Without it we can't decide that "Start 11/1, end
11/3" in iCal is the same as "start 11/1, repeat until 11/3" on the
handheld. We are lobbying Apple to add that functionality to sync services.
