How many events do you have in iCal? We've had some beta testers with

Yes, memory will be consumed - we try to keep it as clear as
possible, but with a large number of records you'll find that it
increases quickly. How much RAM do you have? If you're hearing the
hard drive, its likely that the system is using virtual memory to get
by, further slowing the process.
So, if you do have a lot of events, try to clean out the older ones
if possible.
