Open Address Book and iCal and backup the databases.  (I've already  
forgotten how to do it in OS X 10.3.x.)

Open iSync.
Click on the Palm icon (with your HotSync name).
Select Reset device… from the Devices menu.
Click OK in the confirmation dialog.
Sync.

Resetting the device will overwrite the Treo with the Address Book  
and iCal.
