[missing-sync-palmos-talk] Possible Workaround for Lack of Category Support in iSync

I have found what might be a workaround for the lack of support for
calendar categories in iSync. Unfortunately, this workaround will only
work for those who actually have both a PC and a Mac, and it is
certainly not as good as a fix from Apple, or conduit from Mark/Space
would be.

If you have a PC, download the program DIMEX from
http://linesoft.com/dimex/. Install DIMEX, which becomes an Addin for
the Palm Desktop. You can then tell DIMEX to look for all entries in a
particular category that fall within a specific date range and export
them to ICS format. Import the ICS file into the appropriate calendar in
iCal. The only issue I have come across is that Palm Desktop does allow
the user to set an alarm, but not specify if the alarm is just a sound
or a sound and message. Therefore, when the ICS file is imported it
appears that any entry with an alarm did not import the alarm info.
However, once you set the type of alarm to occur you will see that the
other alarm settings are still present.

The reasons you have to export events in separate files according to
category is the same reason that there is such a problem with synching
calendar categories through iSync. Each calendar in iCal is a separate
file, while Palm is using one file with multiple categories. Each method
has its advantages. Hopefully we will have a TRUE solution within the
coming months instead of years.
