Yes, short of syncing categories, this is a nice option that will help to
keep the sync a little cleaner.
I do a similar thing for my Sony Ericsson phone and 'Address Book'. I sync
only my 'Address Book' entries in the a specific group. I have named the
group PhoneSync. This makes it very easy to see which contacts will be
transferred back and forth from my phone.
