You MUST run the desktop application(s) to convert the PDFs into a
format that is readable by the handheld.

You should care. If an application can read a native file, it does not
require conversion. Documents To Go can read native Word (.doc) and
Excel (.xls) files without having to convert them using a desktop app.

Adobe Reader nor Documents To Go has ever been able to read PDFs that
are stored on the handheld as .pdf files. Everything I have read
indicates that the only program that can read .pdf files on the Palm
that have NOT been converted using a desktop application is Piscel
Viewer which is only available on certain Sony CLIEs.
