Ok, first turn off .Mac sync. Lets take that out of the equation. We
have seen many sync problems caused by issues with .Mac sync. The
reason you might be having issues with iCal is that it is being held
up while .Mac sync updates both ends of the wire.
So turn that off (for the time being) and perform the steps you
previously did (minus .Mac sync). If all of that goes well, then turn
on .Mac sync and see what happens.
Also, is .Mac sync set to synchronize automatically, or on a fixed
schedule? I believe if it is set to automatically it will attempt to
sync with each little change made in the sync, which could be a lot
of work if many things have changed.
