OK, after reading some of the other messages I tried deleting the  
contents of the Library/Application Support/Sync Services folder.
I cleaned out the duplicates from iCal.
Then I did a .Mac sync.
Then I did a Missing Sync sync with Address, Events & Tasks shut off.
Then I did a Missing Sync with Events and Tasks turned on and set to  
overwrite handheld. I also unselected the Birthdays calendar.
Finally I did a Missing Sync with Events and Tasks turned on and set  
to synchronize.

I'm not getting the duplication problem I had.

I entered an event in the Palm iQue. Synced. It did not show up in  
the iCal calendar.
