Adam,

Try doing a desktop overwrites handheld. It would *hopefully* clear  
it up.

Birthdays are listed twice on the Palm if you're on a new device and  
synchronizing both contacts and events. The Palm calendar app  
displays them by pulling the birthday data out of the contacts  
database, as well as the event in the calendar.

As for that other calendar, is it a subscribed calendar? If so, do  
you have the URL? There is a bug in 5.0.2 that causes duplicates with  
certain subscribed calendars (if they are iCal 1.0 format).
