[missing-sync-palmos-talk] Import/export from Memo app - key is data fields, not fonts and formatting

Scott,

If slowness in Mark/Space Memopad has been fixed in version 5.0.2, I'm
not seeing it. The "About" dialog for the version I have shows it as
being 5.0.2 (98), and I've been seeing extreme slowness, but *only*
when attempting to create a new memo.

When creating a new memo, I can type the line "The quick brown fox
jumped over the lazy dog," and it will take 25-30 seconds for that text
to appear on the screen. The first one or two letters of the sentence
will appear right away, and then the rest will fill in (in roughly
10-character chunks) every 3-4 seconds until the sentence is complete.
During this time, the Activity Monitor is typically showing CPU usage
of the Mark/Space Memopad application to be around 30%-60%, but spikes
to 85%-95% for very brief periods.

However, the bigger issue seems to be with memory usage. When I launch
the application (and do nothing - not even browsing the listed memos),
Activity Monitor shows a real memory usage of 13.45MB and virtual
memory usage of 112.24MB. As soon as I start typing in the right pane
of the application, the real memory rockets up to over 240MB of real
memory, and as high as 1.83GB of virtual memory. My only work-around
has been to type all the text I want into a TextEdit document and then
copy-and-paste the text into Mark/Space Memopad (for some reason,
pasting in the text doesn't have the memory hit that typing does).

Browsing memos are fine. Cut-and-pasting text into a new memo seems to
be fine. But typing up a new memo (or typing edits into a prior memo)
slows the application to a glacial pace, and monopolizes my system's
memory.

Getting this fixed would be most appreciated.

The system I'm running is as follows:
System: 12" PowerBook G4 (Rev A), 867Mhz, 640MB RAM
OS: Mac OSX 10.4.3

If there's any other info you need, let me know.

Thanks,
Jim Collison
