[missing-sync-palmos-talk] Import/export from Memo app - key is
data fields, not fonts and formatting

David,
I get it now. Yes, the Palm Memo app doesn't itself support RTF. So for my
purposes using RTF as a file format is neither harmful nor helpful -- mostly
not relevant.
Returning then to my original note:
1. Change to a plain text file format (XML, whatever) so I can work with it
using a text editor.
2. Adopt a well known open source database format for the notebook files
(MySQL, whatever).
3. Add a separate (command line?) import/export utility.
4. Rewrite the memo client to support import and export.
5. Adopt the same file format for the memos as is used for iPod Notes.
6. Adopt the ODF format for memos. [Confusing! - delete this one]
The real point is the ability to get at the Palm data from the desktop.
Formatting isn't relevant, data fields are.
So I really should have written something more like this:
1. Change to a plain text file format (XML, whatever) so I can work with it
using a text editor.
2. Adopt a well known open source database format for the notebook files
(MySQL, whatever).
3. Add a separate (command line?) import/export utility.
4. Rewrite the memo client to support import and export.
5. Adopt the same file format for the memos as is used for iPod Notes.
Implementation #6 doesn't add much. THANKS!
john

That's where I'm confused I guess. I too use the Markspace memo app,
and not the Palm desktop app. But the point of the memo app is to
sync those memos to the Palm device. So we are still limited by the
memo app on the *device*. If Palm's memo application on the device
doesn't support RTF, HTML, whatever, then there's no point in having
them. (Or at least that's what I'm trying to figure out. :-)
