i did, and am downloading the combo now, but it appears that something has gone amiss while i've been testing it. I checked it on the powerbook then moved it to the iMac (where nothing happened, as described). I unhooked all the wiring and tried it again on the Powerbook which now shows no response *either* (and that's running MS 4 on 10.3.9). So something happened, maybe one of the connectors got damaged while I was plugging/unplugging.
I'll try with the other cable at work next week but assuming that doesn't work, I assume the trajectory is erase the LD and see if it works 'out of the box' and if not, fight Palm to repair it? are there other steps I should try that anyone knows?
thanks again - it appears it was just bad timing that it went wrong in the middle of the testing process.
oh, and Drive mode just tells me to plug it into the computer so that's clearly not working either.
fortunately, it still powers from the cable so I can troubleshoot endlessly:-)
