[missing-sync-palmos-talk] can't sync despite troubleshooting advice in manual

Granted that makes sense: but the USB ports check out with other devices and the cable/lifedrive checks out on my PB. But my question was more general - is there anyway I can work with this USB port? I realise this may take us OT but it is only the Palm that doesn't connect so it's not wildly away from the list's proper subject matter...
