Problems

I submit this is the hope that it might help a few people who may
have experienced the same problems as I.
For the life of me I could NOT get Palm Desktop/Hotsync operations to
work on my new G5 2.3 GHz dualie. I got so desperate, that I went
out and bought Missing Sync, hoping that it would solve my problems.
As it turns out, I had a lot of problems syncing my Tungsten E2 with
Tiger 10.4.2. Last night I finally figured out what happened.
One thing that people haven't pointed out when having problems with Palm
Desktop and Tiger is the following:
If you have partitioned your hard drive (as I have) and tend to install
applications on a partition separate from Tiger, you WILL have
permission
problems.
The Palm installer allows you to install Palm Desktop anywhere you
choose
(rather than limiting you to your Tiger partition, as it should) it
will install
important system files on the partition you choose which in my case
did not
contain Tiger. So naturally, Palm desktop would "throw up" when I
tried a
hotsync operation.
Make absolutely sure that you are installing to the Applications
Folder on
your Tiger partition, otherwise you will experience the following
dreaded message:
The Application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched due to a
shared library error: "B<Transport Monitor><Transport
Monitor><HotsynLib.PPC><>"
BTW, if you are using Missing Sync, you should re-install it once you
have
working Palm Desktop/Hotsync combination.
I hope this helps others as I spent a hell of a lot of time trying to
get my Palm
to work with Tiger. It seems obvious now, but no where have I seen this
explained.
