Cron is the ancient Unix utility for scheduling things to be done
at certain times of the day, days of the week or month, etc....
MacOS X is Unix with a pretty face, and cron goes back to the very
early days of Unix.

I'm sure that someone has created GUI interfaces to cron, but
most of the normal interaction with cron goes through the command
line. Try going to a terminal window and typing "man cron".
