[missing-sync-palmos-talk] Missing Sync three strikes behavior

I've noticed that Missing Sync is sometimes inconsistent when the sync
button is pressed on my Palm Treo cradle. Often it immediately launches, as
it should. But every once in a while it will attempt to launch (bouncing
once or twice in the Mac OS X dock) then just give up. When I manually click
the icon to force it to launch again, it attempts to launch again but gives
up after two bounces. Making a third attempt by clicking the icon again
always launches it correctly and then it runs fine.

Strange, huh? I wonder if it has something to do with a third-party
background application or some other background process.

I'm running Mac OS X Tiger on a 2.0DP G5. Some background apps that are
usually running include the HP Deskjet all-in-one support app, Default
Folder, Stuffit Deluxe and Extensis Suitcase. Yet this behavior has shown
itself even when these apps are turned off before the sync attempt, so I'm
not really sure if they can be considered suspects unless there are residual
cached memory issues.
