I did something similar on my Palm. The trick is to "Reset Device" 
using iSync
	Open iSync
	Go to the devices menu and select "Reset All Devices"
	Choose the source of the data to replace it with (Mine gives This 
Computer or .Mac as the choices)
	Synchronise in the usual way
