I have also been having this problem:

  - duplicated categories
  - disappearing memos

The only way to solve has been to trash the memopad file on my mac, and 
force the handheld to overwrite desktop. Unfortunately, I have not been 
able to find anything that causes this. No reproduceable steps. Seems 
to be random.
