Thanks, Dave. Guess you mean move, not copy.

As an aside, with OS X 10.3, moving (as opposed to copying) of files or 
folders on the startup drive automatically occurs on a Click+Drag 
(changing to copy can be done with the Apple 'CMD' held down). Moving 
an item from/to a non-startup drive can be similarly achieved with the 
option key held down during a click/drag mouse movement. Other keyboard 
shortcuts at System Prefs>Keyboard/mouse.
