Get a D-link bluetooth adapter (about $40 from Apple), and use OS X to do it. It's a fairly easy process, but you may need to look for a modem profile for your phone. It really has nothing to do with the Palm "portion" of your phone. I've go the same thing working with my Sony T610. Just do a few searches in Google, and the apple support site. Please fill in the following Q&A. Q. So... will it HotSync with my Tungsten T3? A. Q. What effect will or will not there be on PalmSource decision to drop Mac Support? A. Q. Will you be relying on MarcSpace's Missing Sync, as a possible replacement for Palm's Hotsync for Mac users under Pam's OS 6(Cobalt)? A. Q. At present, I use Entourage for my email only, and Palm Desktop for PIM, which syncs fine with my Tungsten T3. Ideally I'd like to have some sort of integration with Apple's Address book, iCal, and Entourage, so that one doesn't need to enter the same Contacts, To Do's etc twice in order to have it all iSynced with .Mac. Will your Formation provide such integration? Q. How will I Import my data from Palm Desktop, and Entourage into your Formation? Q. How will I then Replicate the result of those Imports from Palm Desktop and Entourage into Address book and iCal, in order to iSync with .Mac? A. Hopefully someone will fill in the Q&A above with as much SPECIFICS as possible. Looking forward to your reply. ? I'm currently syncing entourage 2004 for mac with my zire 72, and as I said, I believe it works with office X for mac and office 2001 for mac os 9 as well. Here are the instructions from the help within microsoft office (entourage) 2004 for mac os x (It was the "additional tools" folder, not the office extras folder as I had erroneously said earlier, that the handheld sync installer is in--I apologize.): "About synchronizing with a handheld device If you have a handheld device, you can synchronize, or share, items between Microsoft Entourage and your handheld. When you synchronize, Entourage copies contacts, tasks, notes, and Calendar events to and from your handheld. After entering information, you can view it and make changes to it by using either your computer or your handheld. If you are currently using Palm Desktop to store information, you can import this information into Entourage by synchronizing your handheld device with Palm Desktop so that it has the latest information, and then following the steps below. Palm Desktop 4.0 is required for Handheld Synchronization to work properly. If your handheld does not support Palm Desktop 4.0, Handheld Synchronization with Entourage will not work. For more information, check with your handheld manufacturer. 1. Make sure that Palm Desktop 4.0 is installed on your computer. 2. Install the Handheld Sync Installer (Entourage Conduit). Open the Additional Tools folder located inside the Microsoft Office 2004 folder. Double-click Handheld Sync Installer, and then follow the directions on your screen. 3. In HotSync Manager, make sure that the Entourage Conduit is set up to synchronize. For more information, see HotSync Manager Help. 4. Synchronize the handheld device with Entourage using HotSync Manager." Only the latter will give you access to Avantgo. They cannot run at the same time. They have distinct architectures (eg to get Missing Sync to run originaly I hd to hard-reset the Palm; but Net Sharing worked fine). It sounds like you have mixed the two up? DNS errors means that you need the DNS settings from your ISp for the Palm settings btw, if you get that far. What sort of internet connection on the mac are you using? (airport, LAN, etc) Before offering particular advice (in the absence of details), we can only say check you created a network appropriately etc. Otherwise, it's the usual debugging: permissions on the Mac, reset the Palm, maybe hard reset, all that stuff... Expected to ship in August, this version supersedes PalmSource's aging HotSync Manager for Mac OS X, the software that allows data to be exchanged between a Palm OS handheld and a Mac. Owners of Palm OS 4 and Palm OS 5 handhelds, including PDAs and smartphones from AlphaSmart, Garmin, palmOne, Samsung, Sony and Tapwave, will appreciate significant improvements over today's HotSync Manager. "When we set out to revitalize Mac-to-Palm synchronization, it was our intention to provide users with three things," said Brian Hall, Mark/Space CEO," compatibility with existing software conduits, cool new features like Wi-Fi synchronization and confidence that a dedicated company with many years of Mac and Palm OS expertise is supporting their needs. We've succeeded in providing a solution that will ensure the future of Mac-to-Palm synchronization." Perhaps the most critical feature of The Missing Sync for Palm OS is that it supports dozens of existing Palm conduits for the Mac, including Apple's freely available iSync Palm conduit and Microsoft's Entourage conduit, offering a seamless experience for users who switch from HotSync Manager. The Missing Sync for Palm OS sports an efficient brushed-metal interface that presents the user with easy access to the most-used features. One such feature, called Conduit Profiles, allows the user to save a group of specific conduits as a set so it can be employed again later. For example, to install an application on the handheld without waiting for other information to synchronize, the user would simply choose the Install Profile and sync. This way, no time is spent running unnecessary conduits. Other features include Wi-Fi (802.11) network sync, painless Bluetooth synchronization, desktop mounting of memory cards, iPhoto and iTunes integration, Internet sharing for sending and receiving email or downloading AvantGo content, a streamlined mini-window view, improved install and backup capabilities and SyncMinder(TM), a user-configurable alarm that reminds the user when it's time to sync. At the PalmSource Developer Conference in February, PalmSource announced that Palm OS Cobalt (Palm OS 6) would not include Mac synchronization software. Mark/Space immediately responded by announcing that it would provide the next generation of Mac-to-handheld synchronization infrastructure. Instead of waiting for new devices to become available, Mark/Space is releasing it's innovative synchronization solution for Palm OS 4 and Palm OS 5 handhelds. ADDED BENEFITS FOR DEVELOPERS One of the most requested features from conduit developers is the ability to create conduits using modern tools such as Apple's Xcode. Mark/Space engineers have not only made it possible for conduits to be created with Xcode and compiled as native Mach-O executables, they have also built a framework that allows developers to use Objective-C and Cocoa for conduit development. In addition, existing conduits developed in Metrowerks CodeWarrior are supported using the current PalmSource Conduit Development Kit (CDK) 4.0.3. "The new Missing Sync for Palm OS provides an intuitively designed solution for all Palm titles with Macintosh support, such as our Pocket Quicken and Leonard Maltin Movie and Video Guide," said Ken Landau, president of long-time Palm OS developer LandWare. "Together with Mark/Space we look forward to delivering seamless Macintosh synchronization integration now and in the future." "Mark/Space has done a wonderful job with The Missing Sync," said Catherine E. White, President at Llamagraphics, creator of the award-winning Life Balance software. Mark/Space representatives will attend Apple's Worldwide Developer conference next week, where they will invite conduit developers to try a beta release of The Missing Sync for Palm OS and provide them with technical information on conduit development. Interested parties may apply to be a beta tester at www.markspace.com/beta_app.html. You can sync on two Macs. I assume you meant the iSync conduit, not iLife? The thing you need to be careful of is editing the same record on the two different Macs without having first done a sync to the handheld. This would create a record conflict and duplicate records (on purpose!). Message-ID: Hi all, Finally got around to purchasing Missing Sync for Palm OS (and the promised free upgrade to 4.0). Downloaded v2.02 and installed. It's nothing like what I originally expected! I thought it was going to be a replacement to the HotSync Manager and there'll be some reordering of all the Hotsync conduits. But it's nothing like it. All the pre-purchase info certainly gave no info on this account. Anyway. It certainly does what's advertised. But gosh, it's rather convoluted in its implementation especially the method by which one gets AvantGo to hotsync. Well, I am happy that at least I can do this without going off to my PC laptop. Fingers crossed that the upcoming 4.0 will address some of these issues. So does anyone have any tips on the use of Missing Sync for a new user? Version 2.x adds features (Desktop Mounting, iTunes/iPhoto plugins, and Internet Sharing) that HotSync Manager does not offer. Version 4 is planned for an August release. I think you'll like it! The Internet Sharing process is much easier, and also supports Bluetooth sharing. Working with AvantGo is the same, which is NOT a conduit but using the direct connection to the AvantGo server, which is typically a faster method than syncing the data with a conduit. Enjoy! Palm has only started to support categories in its Calendar (replacing Datebook) in the T3 series release. Prior to that there were no category support. The only way to preserve categories that I've found is to use the excellent 3rd party replacement DateBk5 in combo with Now Up-to-Date and its conduit. It's the only solution around AFAIK. I don't have any experience with the new Calendar program short of the few minute of play in the stores. But I suspect that DateBk5 still beats it in terms of features. You may care to consider this option if you really want those categories to be carried over. As for going into iCal or Entourage's calendar, well, no luck for the time being. Given that Mark Space does not write the actual conduit. I am not aware of a solution here. This seems to be a limitation of the Apple-provided "iSync Conduit". I was very frustrated until I realized this because I was experiencing 100's of duplicate calendar events on my Tungsten E and iCal every time I iSync'd them. The duplicate calendar entries differed only in category. Now I have only 1 category on my iCal: "Palm". On the Palm I have about half-a-dozen categories, all color-coded. And I no longer get duplicates when I iSync. (Although I own Stevens Creek Software's excellent unDupe for Palm OS should duplicates rear their head in the future.) I'm still hoping for an Apple-provided iSync conduit that works with Palm OS 5's calendar categories - but I am not holding my breath. iSync works reliably for me now, and I at least have color-coded categories on my Tungsten E which is where I need them the most due to Palm's smaller display. Really can't blame Apple. It was Palm's fault for not providing category support in their Datebook until recently in form of Calendar (T3/Z72, OS 5.2.1). As for iSync, well, I am sure they'll catch up in due course. And Palm's Cobalt OS looming, it's no surprise that all the 3rd parties are very cautious (read SLOW/cost efficient) in updating their softwares. -- From bschmidt at uottawa.ca Mon Jun 28 16:15:34 2004 From: bschmidt at uottawa.ca (Ben Schmidt) Date: Mon Jun 28 12:15:11 2004 Subject: [missing-sync-palmos-talk] Re: missing-sync-palmos-talk Digest, Vol 13, Issue 12 In-Reply-To: <200406281900.i5SJ0EH1023295@penguin.markspace.com> References: <200406281900.i5SJ0EH1023295@penguin.markspace.com> Message-ID: <87E944AE-C937-11D8-A14D-000A95BEF4E8@uottawa.ca> On Jun 28, 2004, at 3:00 PM, missing-sync-palmos-talk-request@lists.markspace.com wrote: > Date: Mon, 28 Jun 2004 10:03:51 +1000 > From: W Yu > Subject: Re: [missing-sync-palmos-talk] Re: missing-sync-palmos-talk > Digest, Vol 13, Issue 10 > To: MissingSync Mailing List > > Message-ID: > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > > Ben Schmidt at bschmidt@uottawa.ca wrote on 28/6/04 09:42: > >> This seems to be a limitation of the Apple-provided "iSync Conduit". I took the view that separate phones and PDAs are more cost effective, easier to upgrade and stay compatible when they are separate. I have a T68i and Palm T2 with my PB G4, the 3 worked great. But that's another story. In your case, I suspect there's nothing much better than two. 1. Treo 600. Palm OS and GSM. But it lacks bluetooth facilities. "As long time Mac and Palm OS developers, we're so pleased with the support for sophisticated conduits. Our Mac customers are in for a treat. Not only has Mark/Space brought synchronization for our Mac customers to a level on par with Windows sync, they've surpassed it in several areas." Mark/Space representatives will attend Apple's Worldwide Developer conference next week, where they will invite conduit developers to try a beta release of The Missing Sync for Palm OS and provide them with technical information on conduit development. Interested parties may apply to be a beta tester at www.markspace.com/beta_app.html. PRICING, AVAILABILITY AND REQUIREMENTS Version 4.0 of The Missing Sync for Palm OS is expected to be available from the Mark/Space online store in August and will cost $39.95 for electronic download, $49.95 for the CD. Any configuration or procedural steps I should watch out for? I'd be happy if I can be proven wrong. -- From shannon-ross at uiowa.edu Sat Jun 26 21:41:00 2004 From: shannon-ross at uiowa.edu (Shannon Ross-Sheehy) Date: Fri May 6 12:02:49 2005 Subject: [missing-sync-palmos-talk] preserving categories In-Reply-To: <200406261912.i5QJCOH1007236@penguin.markspace.com> References: Message-ID: Message-ID: <442-SnapperMsgBBA76531BD03D68F@68.25.67.19> Con, I don't know of anything to preserve the categories using ical, but I do know of a great 3rd party conduit for Entourage that preserves the categories perfectly (with or without datebook5). -- From bschmidt at uottawa.ca Mon Jun 28 16:15:34 2004 From: bschmidt at uottawa.ca (Ben Schmidt) Date: Fri May 6 12:02:49 2005 Subject: [missing-sync-palmos-talk] Re: missing-sync-palmos-talk Digest, Vol 13, Issue 12 In-Reply-To: <200406281900.i5SJ0EH1023295@penguin.markspace.com> References: <200406281900.i5SJ0EH1023295@penguin.markspace.com> Message-ID: <87E944AE-C937-11D8-A14D-000A95BEF4E8@uottawa.ca> On Jun 28, 2004, at 3:00 PM, missing-sync-palmos-talk-request@lists.markspace.com wrote: > Date: Mon, 28 Jun 2004 10:03:51 +1000 > From: W Yu > Subject: Re: [missing-sync-palmos-talk] Re: missing-sync-palmos-talk > Digest, Vol 13, Issue 10 > To: MissingSync Mailing List > > Message-ID: > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > > Ben Schmidt at bschmidt@uottawa.ca wrote on 28/6/04 09:42: > >> This seems to be a limitation of the Apple-provided "iSync Conduit". You can add my Tungsten E to the above list of of Palms which ship with OS 5.2.1 or later, and hence have the newer Palm Calendar v1.0 application with category support.
