[missing-sync-palmos-talk] Missing Sync 4 quits on start

I have just installed Missing Sync 4.0 on a Powerbook G4 running OS X 10.3.4
and Entourage X 10.1.4.

Installation of MS 4 went fine, but it will not sync. The application quits
silently and immediatlely at startup-- the window flashes on the screen for
a mere fraction of the second. There are no messages about it in the
console, and no error dialog.

Attempting to sync produces the same effect; sync starts and then stops
without any error.
