What happens is that you post to the list, it goes out to all the list
members, and some of those addresses may be bad, or the person on vacation
or whatever AND THAT PERSONS email client and/or server sends a message
back to YOU (rather than the list). This is because they look at the FROM
address (which is you) rather than the REPLY-TO address (which is the
list). In the case where they (IMHO) properly pick the reply-to address,
the bounce/vacation/whatever message goes back to the list server and is
discarded.

Since it isn't the list server sending you the message, there isn't a great
deal we (running the list) can do about it. But we're open to ideas if we
missed something.
