[missing-sync-palmos-talk] SplashPhoto 4.3b1 long image name

Hello all,

I am attempting to synchronize a picture with a long file name
(originally on a desktop) from my handheld Clié to another desktop
using SplashPhoto. Going to the handheld Clié running 5.0 and the
latest Missing Sync software and the latest Splash, the file goes one
way OK, but not the other way (back to another desktop). I am pretty
sure this isn't a sync issue but rather a SplashPhoto issue that didn't
get fixed evenb though it was reported to Splash several times in
different venues and responded to by Splash folks that it would indeed
be fixed in this latest update.

Please note in the examples that the full file name is shown as appears
in the directory. It is quoted even though the .jpg doesn't appear in
the program for the picture name. As the name cannot be changed in
Splashphoto Palm, each time the desktop name was shortened, I sync'd
again, removed from the desktop and copied from handheld to verify. The
failure message is somewhat ambiguous too, "**** Could not copy file to
desktop "/Palm/Programs/SplashPhoto/DSC_0816_BegoniaSemperflorens.jpg"
(-43).>>> Unexpected error -43." Most people don't know the
directory/file structure of the Palm. I was reminded of the real
meaning by Scott Gruby at MS (Missing Sync).

Examples of what does NOT sync properly:

The following name syncs both ways. I conclude therefore that names of
22 chars. to the left of the file descriptor or fewer (.jpg) will be
OK. I leave it to others to figure the maximum number of characters
that do work- gave up after finding a working solution.
This works:

This is clearly sub standard in any OS, especially so when the failure
occurs syncing files in one direction only and led to suspecting a Sync
issue with another third party program. The longer file name exists
just fine on Palm and syncs from Desktop to Palm. It exists just fine
on my desktop too. I do not know the situation for WIN desktops. Why
doesn't it work when sync'ing from Palm to desktop??? Hey I don't know
about the rest of you guys, but I'd like to count on file names of a
given length working and that length should be the longest length
allowed by the OS on the platform, not an arbitrary semi-limit imposed
some of the time.

Now that I did all the research for Splash on this complicated issue
involving Missing Sync, upgrades of both programs, diagnosing,
documenting, and reporting back continuing difficulties reported first
on this list and the Splash website a month ago, how about a free copy
of the update to those who participated, for their friends who
currently don't use your programs?
