I seem to remember using the "ln" command-line tool rather than  
Finder aliases. Not sure if this matters, but it's worth a shot.

Something like:

ln -s path-to-SampleConduit.plugin "/Library/Applications/Missing  
Sync for Palm OS/Plugins/SampleConduit.plugin"
