I too would like to see a SERIOUS upgrade to the missing-sync for sidekick. It needs it badly. Kudos to the user who did all the hard work. We who bought this program are in your debt, sir. Truly. C. I believe this effectively cleans out the other devices current contacts and does a sync "from scratch." I had some trouble with this initially with my Sidekick for some reason, some contacts and calendar data entries were duplicated. Eventually I manually deleted the Sidekick's contacts and calendar data, and then performed the sync again in this way, and it seemed to do the trick. One unrelated word of advice concerning Sidekick use while traveling internationally -- I just got back from traveling in Europe with the intention of using my Sidekick as a PDA only (so that I could have access to my contacts and calendar data), avoiding using it as a phone or internet device. While on the road, I noticed my bill was higher; contacting T-Mobile customer support I asked if the device's data collection on power-up would constitute billable "data roaming" charges, and I was given an unambiguous "no." Called again after I got back home to the States to get to the bottom of the extra charges, and it turns out the first rep was wrong. The Sidekick's communication with the server (such as upon power-up) to collect its "on-board" info (calendar data, notes, contacts, etc.) constitutes billable international data roaming. So if you have to take a bunch of flights, be warned -- you'll be hit with $15.00 per megabyte every time you turn the phone back on, even if they tell you you won't. T-Mobile was totally inflexible when I explained what I'd been told, and no refund was issued. Caveat emptor. I hate to abandon the Sidekick, which I love, but this was the last straw after a lot of nonsense with T-Mobile as a company. Here's hoping Danger is eventually able to offer their device with other carriers. I had a similar problem with a rep telling me something which wasn't true or wasn't honored later. In my case, TMobile extorted $100 from me and tried to extort another $300. I have heard and read numerous similar accounts. I suppose one solution would be to record all calls with customer service in order to have a record of promises and assurances they make. My approach was simpler: I went back to Verizon. It was hard to give up my Sidekick, but I don't want to do business with a company I can't trust. Verizon has always done right by me. Not only have they never stuck me with erroneous fees, they have voluntarily waived fees which I actually owed. In each case, the rep offered to waive the fees without my even asking. Overall, my Verizon bill is larger each month than my TMobile bills were. I'm happy to pay the difference in exchange for a quality network and quality customer service experiences. --mkb From chade at mac.com Fri Jun 23 13:52:10 2006 From: chade at mac.com (chad einbinder) Date: Fri Jun 23 13:52:43 2006 Subject: [missing-sync-hiptop-talk] Re: missing-sync-hiptop-talk Digest, Vol 26, Issue 3 In-Reply-To: <200606231900.k5NJ05Tu032323@sparrow.markspace.com> References: <200606231900.k5NJ05Tu032323@sparrow.markspace.com> Message-ID: Josh, you are right. Under some circumstances, including being turned off for a long time, the Sidekick has no data when it first boots. If you boot in an area where you have coverage, since your data will trickle back before too long, but if you are without service in europe, you've got a problem. If GPRS will work properly (aside from the cost issues), one workaround might be to leave wireless enabled until your data comes back, turning it off immediately afterwards. --mkb
