I'm having this issue too.  My variation stems from two things: 1) 
Turning off a calendar for syncing that I already synced with, and 2) 
Changing the "add items from device to calendar " to a different 
calendar.

Because of both of these I now have doubles of everything on my HipTop 
and computer. :-(
