 I had a similar problem where the sync program would not recognize my
username and said it was invalid. I spent considerable time on the phone
with t-mobile and unearthed the problem: the username that we use on the
tmobile website isn't necessarily your true username. Apparently when you
set up your phone you supply or they supply you with one. In any case, try
using your full name as one word as your username instead of your phone
number and that might work.
